About Us

Bezpala Brown Gallery was established by Lyudmila Bezpala-Brown and Darrell Brown. For over a decade Darrell engaged in international development work in numerous countries in Southeast Asia and the former Yugoslav and Soviet Republics. Mila accompanied Darrell on his treks through Eastern Europe. While he focused on supporting economic, social and legal reforms, she focused on art. Her keen interest in the local art scene, her own interest in painting and her engagement in charitable activities led her to explore relationships with local artists and to use art as a medium for fund raising in support of her charitable objectives.

In 2009, Darrell and Mila returned to Canada. Darrell resumed practicing law. Home-grown artist, lawyer and business manager, Mila sought to combine her professional training with her love of art. The Bezpala Brown Gallery is the result.

The Bezpala Brown Gallery is dedicated to the North American promotion of established Eastern European artists and the development and support of emerging talent here in Canada. Paintings, photography and sculptures of various contemporary styles form the nucleus of our exhibitions and permanent collection. We represent internationally and locally acclaimed artists from Russia, Ukraine, Macedonia, Kazakhstan and other Eastern European countries as well as outstanding emerging artists from Canada and the United States.

Our location at 17 Church Street is in the heart of Old Town Toronto, just one block from the famous St. Lawrence Market. The Gallery offers nearly 1800 square feet of space facilitating a number of exhibition rooms and a studio for artists-in-residence or guest artists.

In the upcoming months, we will introduce an incredible array of visual art to Toronto that has already met with critical acclaim in Europe. Mila's roots in Eastern Europe combined with Darrell's consulting experience have enabled the Gallery to attract a premier collection and an impressive list of contributing artists. Over the next few months several of these artists will visit the Gallery and be available to discuss the origins and meaning of their work. We are confident that our exhibitions will whet the appetite of the Toronto art community and firmly establish the Bezpala Brown Gallery as an essential ingredient in the rich mix of galleries available in the metropolitan area.
