Mykhailo Deyak
Haystack, 2009, oil on canvas 100 x 80 cmSOLD
Mykhailo Deyak is a strong representative of the contemporary Carpathian Mountains school of painting, registering his impressions of nature and mixing them with his own subjective moods. His works are mostly landscapes and still lifes that use bright colours to evoke his affection for his environment and objects from the natural world. Western Ukrainian villages figure prominently in his work. His paintings captured at plain-air during his trips through Europe invite viewers to enjoy Venetian landscape, Paris urban sites and a port in Monaco. They are warm, pulsing like a living organism, filling the space with colour and vibration, ionizing the surrounding air. With an exhibitions and auction history of eleven years, Deyak quickly gained national recognition in Ukraine. Deyak currently lives and works in Kyiv, Ukraine.

Featured Critique by Dmytro Korsun:
“The creation of Mykhailo Deyak exists on the verge of real and fictional, seen and heard. The artist works with a genuine passion and irrepressible creative energy that find their implementation in art. We can feel here a permanent interaction between carefully thought-out, precisely arranged spots of colour and graphical fluid, completely random interferences. The original and dynamic nature of creator’s poetics has been created in this dialogue of contraries. It is enriched with a wide emotional range – from the traditional elements expressed in the form of realistic fragments by variety of the inner emotional motives and outbreaks of elemental reaction – to the strictly modernistic, fauvistic and often completely abstract expression.
The works of Mykhailo Deyak reflects his own impressions and feelings, his personal world-view. They are painted in a sincere, emphatically expressive manner, born with powerful emotions. Powerful energy of emotions is a primary driving force of artist’s creative efforts; it is his constant companion in voyages to the worlds of exciting visual images, intellectual meanings and subjective pictorial artwork.”
