Lebedynets takes colour and texture to new heights. He describes his art as the “reality of abstraction.” Many of his works are directly or indirectly cast with music and aptly named to reflect this: “Rhapsody,” “Melody,” “Composition,” and “Sonata.” To him “music is reality”. He consciously avoids using visual subjects. His art exists independent from the visible world. In essence, he has managed to breathe new life into the tradition of European non-figurative art. “I constantly experiment in the system of vivid harmony, and not of destruction,” states Lebedynets. The larger his work, the more dominating and breathtaking its presence. Lebedynets was ranked number four of the top hundred contemporary artists in Ukraine by the national project “100 Artists: Modern and Contemporary Ukranian Art since Independence”. He has been invited on numerous occasions to exhibit in France, Germany, Switzerland, Luxembourg, Austria, and other European countries. On this side of the ocean, he has exhibited in New York and Toronto. His work can be found in private collections in the U.K., Germany, Switzerland, France, AUstria, Belgium, Poland, Netherlands, Spain, Italy, and the Unidted States. Lebedynets was born in 1956 in Melitopol, Ukraine. He graduated from Kyiv State Arts Academy in 1984 and quickly gained recognition both in the Ukraine and Europe. He has been a member of the National Artists Union since 1990.
